Institutional distance and US-based international mutual funds’ financial performance

In this research, we analyse the impact of institutional distance between investor and investee countries on risk-adjusted financial performance for a broad sample US-based international mutual funds in period 1997-2021 (1,704 equity funds/106,521 monthly portfolios). Our results show that greater jeopardizes fund performance. Another relevant finding is holding more country-concentrated portfolio positively impacts addition, reveal an interaction effect two variables, meaning country concentration moderates negative distance, supporting information advantage theory.
